Flint Hills Volunteer Center

Mission

Inspiring volunteers and efficiently connecting them to the needs of our community

Details

The Flint Hills Volunteer Center is driven by its mission of connecting volunteers to the needs of our community. As our community grows rapidly, the issues we face continue to increase in providing resources for unmet basic human needs. With a database of over 1500 volunteers, the Flint Hills Volunteer Center is a link to provide those resources.

Our Core Programs are:

  • AmeriCorps Seniors (formerly RSVP) provides volunteers 55 and older to help at over 50 non-profit agencies. Examples include Friendship Meals (Meals on Wheels), thrift stores, food pantries, tax assistance, providing cookies to the USO, Valor Honey, medical transportation, lawn care, snow removal, and more.
  • Connecting Students to Communities provides volunteer opportunities for students as a conduit to teach workplace readiness skills, enhance academic performance, inspire a lifetime commitment to service, and address the needs of recipient nonprofit organizations. Recruitment targets middle school, high school, college students and Fort Riley active duty.
  • FHVC Suicide Awareness P.A.C.T. (Prevention, Awareness, Compassion, Training) utilizes trained volunteers to educate the community on risk factors for suicide and mental health, along with the interventions available for help.
  • Neighbor2Neighbor is a volunteer program in the city of Manhattan that helps elderly residents remain in their home. This program connects volunteers, volunteer groups, and organizations with Manhattan residents who need assistance. Volunteers help with snow removal and basic yard work.
  • Corporate Volunteer Program where employees are allowed flex time to donate an hour to volunteering.
